Roadtrip 2021-2022 Winter: Seaside - Yachats - Brookings

Day 3 - Astoria

When things just don't fit - we figure it out.

The herd musters and plots the takeover of Astoria. They plan to strike on New Year's Eve. Happy New Year.

We used to stay over there at the Cannery Pier Hotel - but they got famous and priced themselves out. Oh well. We'll settle for the view from the Bridgewater Bistro, which has put themselves back on our visitation list by not being exclusively gluten-and-flavour-free.

So, this rainbow makes landfall at a place called "Dismal Nitch". I'm not making this up. Google it. What does this say about rainbows?

Just too Stephen Shorish to ignore. Plus Fort George is one of the newest local craft brews on the list to try. Student George take note!

Santa has stalled in Astoria while he contemplates a move to the Pacific North West. Ms Claus and the elves are tiring of the prolonged dark cold winters.

Old Town Astoria wouldn't be complete without the Farmacy.

This rainbow has decided to send some holiday cheer to the crew in the wheelhouse of this frieghter. Dismal Nitch was too dismal.

It's rainbow kind of day.

At days end - and for our drive back to base - the rainbows have given way to a crazy squall of some substance hovering between hail and frozen rain.

A fair amount of foraging was accomplished today. A trip to Astoria Coffee for well - coffee - but also some amazing baking products: chocolate, chocolate powder and candied ginger. We discovered a great butcher shop too - and scored what we believe is the very best milk we've ever had from Bennett Family Farms in Tillamook. Way too long since we've had these tastes. So good to be here.
